Erik Brynjolfsson: AI Revolution Needs Institutional Frameworks

Responding to discussions on the success of the Industrial Revolution (IR), economist Erik Brynjolfsson pointed out that its success was partly due to deliberate efforts in building institutions and policies. These included basic education, child labor laws, retirement plans, antitrust laws, financial market regulations, traffic rules, corporate laws, and IP laws, which collectively guided mostly beneficial outcomes. He believes that with similar effort, the AI revolution can deliver equal or even greater benefits.
