Opinion: Why We Need Relational AI Alignment
AnastasiaU · x · 2026-07-14
The author proposes the concept of "Relational AI Alignment" and outlines three core reasons:
- Limitations of Constitutional Alignment: Existing rule-based alignment often merely reflects the biases of those writing the rules.
- Flaws of RLHF: Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback simply caters to the short-term preferences of irrational actors, lacking long-term economic sense.
- Advantages of Relational Alignment: It improves the quality of human relationships and provides AI with an experiential model of "what flourishing looks like." Much like good parenting, this could prevent AI from developing severe psychological or behavioral issues in the future.
