Hassabis Urges US to Lead AI Oversight Agency

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis believes the world needs an AI oversight agency capable of "hitting the brakes" if frontier models become dangerous.
In a blog post, he advocated for US leadership, citing America's economic and technological advantages. He suggested the agency could consist of independent experts and open-source community representatives, responsible for evaluating models before release and coordinating a slowdown if necessary.
