AI Will Amplify Tech and Economic Growth

David Patterson uses the metaphor of "vector addition" to explain the future: technological progress and economic growth are already accelerating, and AI will further amplify both.
He believes AI will integrate into every stage of the scientific research process: planning experiments, executing them via robotic lab equipment, analyzing results, and writing papers. In fields like drugs, proteins, antibodies, DNA, and materials, specialized AI will continue to accelerate discovery speeds, potentially boosting overall R&D velocity by over 1000%.
He also views AI as a new "labor vector": in software, AI could increase information work efficiency by over 1000x; in the physical realm, the mass deployment of humanoid robots and autonomous driving systems capable of 24/7 operation could scale total human labor by another order of magnitude.
