Agentic Bug Hunt in SymPy

The author adds that SymPy, as mathematical infrastructure, was thought to be highly "battle-tested." Yet, in this project, his UCLA PhD students Xinjie and Hyunsik used Codex + GPT-5.6 to find many "very simple" failure cases within it.

This reinforces a key signal: even for mature, core open-source projects, coding agents can serve as highly effective tools for real code auditing and bug discovery.
