Who Will Capture the AI Profits?
soumitrashukla9 · x · 2026-07-14
This conversation discusses a common proposition: having sovereign wealth funds hold AI lab equity to allow society to share in AI dividends.
The core skepticism is that this plan assumes AI revenues will concentrate in a few labs, which isn't necessarily true. The discussion points out that if other organizations also use AI to massively boost profits, lay off workers, and retain earnings on the capital side, society won't automatically receive corresponding fiscal returns.
In other words, the problem isn't just "who holds AI company stock," but where AI profits ultimately settle and who controls their distribution.
