Claude Code's Initial Token Payload Too Large

According to interface boundary tests by Systima, executing a simple "reply OK" in an empty project using Claude Code 2.1.207 carries roughly 32.8k Tokens of system prompts, tool definitions, and scaffolding in the first request. In contrast, OpenCode 1.17.18 on the same model uses about 6,900 Tokens, making the former roughly 4.7x larger.
The core insight here is that the "invisible context cost" varies wildly among coding agents, directly affecting speed, latency, and usability.
