Xkernel: Provably Safe Linux Kernel Tuning

Xkernel introduces a provably safe tuning mechanism for the Linux kernel. It enables millisecond-level runtime adjustments to kernel constants without recompilation or reboots, allowing OS behavior to be tailored for different workloads.
The authors emphasize this eliminates numerous hardcoded, fragile configurations. Multiple case studies in the paper show this tunability offers widespread benefits across Linux subsystems, with official benchmarks reporting a maximum 50× speedup.
