Anthropic Extends Claude Fable Access Again
Simon Willison · rss · 2026-07-13
Anthropic has once again delayed the shutdown of Claude Fable:
- They have extended the availability of Claude Fable 5 across all paid plans until July 19.
- Meanwhile, the weekly rate limits for Claude Code will continue to be maintained at their current higher levels.
- Usage remains unchanged: half of the weekly quota can be used for Fable 5, after which you can continue using usage credits or switch to other models.
The author believes Anthropic previously did this primarily due to compute constraints, wanting to get a clearer picture of demand and available compute before deciding whether to offer it long-term at a low price to subscribers. In contrast, OpenAI seems more confident and won't restrict access to new models like Anthropic does; the author even argues that Anthropic should just keep Fable permanently in these tiers, otherwise users will defect to OpenAI due to access uncertainty.
