Experimenting With 3D Latent Space Visualization
leland_mcinnes · x · 2026-07-12
The author initially resisted adding 3D to Latent Scope, preferring to stick with 2D maps and GIS experience. However, with prototyping costs so low now, they are excited about how 3D could improve latent space navigation.
A core challenge mentioned is that while 3D can render many points, overlapping makes them hard to interpret. An interesting experimental direction is a voxel heatmap: bucketing points in 3D space and using interactive slices to observe local structures.
