Kreuzberg Renamed to Xberg, Forks LTS Version
Goldziher · reddit · 2026-07-12
Kreuzberg (a local document extraction tool) is being renamed to Xberg. The author explained that the old name wasn't intuitive for non-German speakers, whereas Xberg is a common abbreviation for Berlin's Kreuzberg district, making it shorter and more readable.
Since renaming the repository affects stars, tags, and release workflows, the team decided to maintain a separate LTS repository: kreuzberg-lts. This version will continue to receive bug fixes and security updates until the end of the year, but no new features will be added.
The new version, Xberg v1.0.0, is currently in the RC stage, and pre-release packages are already available on PyPI under the name xberg.
