Anthropic analyzed 1.2 million Claude Cowork sessions across over 600,000 organizations and found that its biggest use case isn't coding, but rather "the tedious office work nobody wants to own."
Key findings include:
- About half of the usage is concentrated on business processes and text creation. Anthropic refers to these tasks as "the work around the work," including organizing status reports, creating onboarding checklists, and preparing slides.
- Software development accounts for a very small percentage, because developers prefer using Claude Code over Claude Cowork.
- This reflects the real enterprise demand for collaborative AI: not flashy tricks, but handling repetitive, low-priority, yet necessary office workflows.
