Anthropic Reportedly Sends Massive Bill
sven_ai · x · 2026-07-12
A South Korean user reported receiving an astronomical billing email from Anthropic:
- On July 7, they received an email stating they owed $1.669 million, but the charge failed.
- On July 8, the amount skyrocketed to $16.62 million (approx. 25.1 billion KRW).
- However, checking their API usage showed 0, and they hadn't even used the service.
- The sender's email address and links looked entirely official; subsequently, their bank debit card also showed multiple failed charge alerts for the merchant "ANTHROPIC".
The original poster questioned whether this was an official system error or a severe bug, noting that the consequences would be absurd if the charge had actually gone through.
