LeCun: Foundation Models Should Be Open Source

Yann LeCun reposted and reiterated that foundation models are essentially "knowledge models" trained on public human knowledge, and therefore should be open source. In doing so, he addressed concerns that "the biggest risk of AI is a few closed vendors controlling intelligent assistants," arguing that open-source foundation models are the true path to achieving AI sovereignty.
