Claude Subscriptions and the Fable 5 Controversy
soumitrashukla9 · x · 2026-07-11
Commenters argue that Anthropic won't pull Fable 5 from Claude subscriptions because it would directly undermine the subscription's value.
According to Artificial Analysis's Coding Index, without Fable 5, Anthropic's strongest model would be Opus 4.8, which would still lose to GPT 5.6 and even the older GPT 5.5. Therefore, the author concludes that Fable 5 isn't just a bonus—it's currently the only real justification keeping the Claude subscription competitive.
