15TB Physical Simulation Dataset Open-Sourced
TinfoilTricorn · x · 2026-07-11
Polymathic AI, alongside the Flatiron Institute and various universities and labs, has open-sourced The Well: a 15TB high-fidelity physical simulation dataset.
It covers 16 physics domains, including turbulence, supernova explosions, magnetohydrodynamic cosmological flows, acoustic scattering, and active biological matter. Generating such data previously required national supercomputers and significant funding. The Well aims to provide training data for PDE surrogate models, enabling faster AI systems to replace expensive and slow physical solvers.
