LLMs Are More Like Advanced Autocomplete

The author uses "keyboard autocomplete" as an analogy for large language models: keyboards also predict the next most likely word based on context, but we don't say the keyboard "decides" or "understands"; similarly, LLMs predict the next word at scale. The tweet aims to express that people attribute too much anthropomorphic judgment, knowledge, and intent to models.
