Gaussian Processes Enhance Protein Fitness Prediction

A recent study concludes that applying Gaussian process kernels—which encode evolutionary information and local linearity assumptions—to protein sequence-to-fitness predictions can significantly boost predictive performance.
Essentially, the authors improved the fitness prediction of protein sequences by designing a kernel that better aligns with biological evolutionary structures.
