Based on an **ICML** position paper, the author argues that the core challenge for assistant AI is not general capability, but "**vertical local adaptation**"—systems must continuously specialize for specific users and environments over time. They emphasize that even for identical tasks (like cooking or cleaning), every home differs in layout, object placement, habits, preferences, and error tolerance. An effective assistant AI must adapt during real-world usage, which is especially critical in embodied scenarios.
