Project Genie Generates Virtual Worlds from Street View
GoogleAI · x · 2026-07-10
Google DeepMind and Google Labs showcased the research prototype Project Genie, which uses Google Maps Street View as a foundation, allowing users to generate and explore interactive 360° virtual environments from text prompts or real-world locations.
It aims to solve the "blank space" problem in generative interactive worlds: generating not just what's in front of the camera, but also completing the environment behind it. The system predicts subsequent frames based on world descriptions and user actions, making the generated world more dynamic and rich. Official examples include scenarios like swimming in the ocean or climbing a mountain peak.
