Amazon Quick Launches Dataset Enrichment to Embed Business Context

The AWS Machine Learning Blog introduced Dataset Enrichment for Amazon Quick. This feature allows users to embed business context—such as column descriptions, synonyms, calculated fields, and business rules—directly into the dataset, replacing the traditional Legacy Topics architecture.
Core Improvements
- Single Source of Truth: Previously, business metadata and datasets were managed separately, causing sync issues with permissions and versions. Now, all semantic information flows with the data, automatically inherited by dashboards or AI chat features built on the dataset.
- AI-Driven Analytics Ready: Datasets become "self-describing." Amazon Quick's chat experience can resolve ambiguous business terms directly from metadata without extra Topic configuration.
- Topic Role Upgrade: Legacy Topics will be deprecated. New Topics are elevated to a multi-dataset semantic and inference layer for defining cross-dataset relationships and complex business metrics.
Migration Strategy
A four-step migration process is provided with a Python script. It automatically extracts metadata from legacy Topics and writes it to the new dataset's SemanticModelConfiguration via API, requiring no manual UI adjustments.
