Codex and Claude Usage Visualization Tool
aigclink · x · 2026-07-10
codexU is a macOS menu bar and desktop widget for simultaneously tracking the quotas, token usage, and daily task dashboards of OpenAI Codex and Claude Code.
Its standout feature is the "freeloader progress" tracker:
- Converts locally parsed tokens to USD using OpenAI API pricing
- Compares this against the user's subscription tier (Plus / Pro 100 / Pro 200) on a single progress bar
- Visually shows "how much of this month's subscription has paid for itself"
The post also details several implementation specifics:
- Data is primarily local: app-server quota/usage APIs, /.codex/state5.sqlite, and token events from rollout logs
- Claude Code tracking is optional
- Compatible with the new merged app paths for Codex and ChatGPT
- Because the local API only provides rolling window percentages and reset times, it can only display remaining percentages, not exact absolute tokens
For frequent Codex users, this is a highly practical visualization tool that also offers great inspiration for indie developers.
