Developers are complaining about the overly complex configuration options in current AI tools. Taking OpenAI as an example, it now offers 2 modes (Codex and Work), 3 GPT-5.6 models (Sol, Terra, Luna), and 5 effort levels (Light to Ultra).
This means users face up to 30 possible configuration combinations (2x3x5) for a single query. The author expresses frustration over this, missing the simplicity of the old "Auto" mode.
