Claude Opus Memory Function Causes Severe Recency Bias
nptacek · x · 2026-07-09
Developers report that the recently enabled memory feature in Claude Opus 4.8 has caused a severe "recency bias." The model excessively references information it generated in previous conversational turns, treating it as absolute fact. For instance, the model might proactively save certain ablation study details to memory and then treat them as established facts, rather than responding based on actual user confirmation.
