OpenAI Says GPT-5.6 Cleared by US Regulators
智东西 · wechat · 2026-07-08
OpenAI announced that its latest flagship models, GPT-5.6 (including Sol, Terra, and Luna), have been approved by the US Department of Commerce and will be publicly released this Thursday. Previously, safety reviews restricted the series to a limited preview for select enterprises.
The Commerce Department’s AI Center of Standards and Innovation reportedly handled supplementary testing and consultations. Concurrently, the US government lifted access and export restrictions on Anthropic’s Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models. Anthropic also extended the free subscription window for Fable 5 until July 12, transitioning to a prepaid credit system thereafter.
