Semiconductor Monopolies Becoming an AI Bottleneck

The author argues that a handful of companies—ASML, TSMC, Zeiss, JSR, and Shin-Etsu Chemical—control the entire semiconductor supply chain, creating a real bottleneck for AI development and consumer/commercial computing devices. The result is either hardware shortages or exorbitant prices driven by high demand. While open source has made software cheaper, hardware is growing increasingly expensive due to monopolies. The author believes that breaking up these monopolies and decentralizing the semiconductor supply chain could be the key to unlocking a true "intelligence explosion."
