Researchers discuss representational alignment between LLMs and the human brain: the model's layer-by-layer information processing mirrors the brain's cortical hierarchy (per Millet et al., 2022 NeurIPS; Goldstein et al., 2022 Nature Neuroscience). However, this "brain-LLM alignment" is imperfect and can be significantly outperformed by non-linear mappings.
