IDC analyst perilli shared his latest forecast for the number of active enterprise AI Agents over the next 3.5 years. Based on recent conversations at IDC, he noted that the industry has yet to fully grasp the impact of large-scale agentic AI. He pointed out that most current so-called "agents" are essentially AI-assisted workflows—manual clicks disguised under the guise of human oversight. He views this human oversight as a costly bottleneck, a situation that is bound to change.
