Samsung Profit Soars 19-Fold as AI Memory Becomes Scarce Infrastructure

Samsung reported quarterly operating profit surging about 19-fold year-on-year to $58.44 billion, far exceeding expectations. AI demand has transformed memory from a cheap cyclical commodity into scarce infrastructure: DRAM prices rose 44% quarter-on-quarter, NAND 53%. According to Counterpoint, in Q1 2026 Samsung led DRAM+HBM combined market share at 38%, ahead of SK Hynix's 29%; NAND share at 29% also topped.
