Investor: Anthropic Predicted $500B+ AI Coding Market in Early 2025

Whale Rock Capital founder Alex Sacerdote revealed on a podcast that Anthropic internally estimated the massive market potential of AI coding as early as the beginning of 2025. Internal employees were spending about $100 daily on tokens (annualized to $20k-$30k). Multiplied by roughly 20 million developers globally, the coding market alone would exceed $500 billion. At that time, they were still using 9-month-old technology, and Claude Code was just starting to gain massive traction.
