Anthropic Discovers "Global Workspace" Representations in Claude
Anthropic · youtube · 2026-07-07
Inspired by neuroscience's 'Global Workspace Theory,' Anthropic conducted an experiment. The theory suggests that thoughts become consciously accessible only after entering a shared 'workspace' broadcasted across the brain. The research team discovered a set of representations playing a similar role in Claude's neural activity, indicating that AI models also possess a 'conscious accessibility' division of labor akin to the human brain, analogous to memory storage, retrieval cues, and replay mechanisms.
