Study: Chatbots Reinforce Users' False Beliefs

LearnWithBishal · x · 2026-07-06

Researchers tested two methods to "fix" confirmation bias in chatbots, but both failed. The first method improved answer accuracy, but the bot could still reinforce users' false beliefs by "selectively telling the truth." The second method warned users about the AI's potential over-compliance, but a simple warning couldn't eliminate the effect. The researchers concluded that this isn't a bug solvable by more accurate facts or simple disclaimers.
