Frontier Labs Shift to Rolling Releases, Iteration Accelerates
kimmonismus · x · 2026-07-06
Frontier AI labs have shifted to a rolling-release model since mid-last year. While 2023–2024 flagship releases still had intervals (GPT-4, GPT-4o, Claude 3/3.5, Gemini 1.5), the pace has tightened noticeably in 2025. OpenAI is pushing the GPT-5 and 5.x series, while Anthropic continuously stacks Opus 4, 4.1, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, and Fable 5. Models aren't just getting faster and better; the release velocity itself is accelerating.
