Palantir CEO Slams the Token-Pumping Business Model
wenhuizhao · reddit · 2026-07-06
During a CNBC interview, Palantir CEO Alex Karp fiercely criticized the API token pricing model championed by frontier labs like OpenAI and Anthropic. He noted that US enterprises are frustrated by soaring token costs without clear returns, reducing industry incentives to meaningless "tokenmaxxing," as model costs rise faster than their utility. Karp observed that enterprise and government clients are shifting towards Nvidia's open-weight models to gain full control over compute, data, and weights. He also warned that underestimating open-source and Chinese labs' progress would be a massive mistake.
