US enterprise financial services firm Slash encouraged employees to experiment with Vibe Coding. Nicolas Brillante, Head of Strategic Initiatives, used AI to create a pixel-art brainrot FPS game, "Brainrot Shooter," but unexpectedly burned through $81,267 (approx. 550,000 RMB) in AI tokens within a week. The company initially treated it as an "expense incident," forwarding the bill to players as a marketing cost.
The game attracted 6,912 players within 48 hours of launch, accumulating 8,986 hours of playtime, and drew ad partnership inquiries from three brands. Internally, it was quickly upgraded from an "expense incident" to a "strategic project." Slash stated that this money-burning game ultimately brought in about $100 million (approx. 700 million RMB) in new AUM, achieving an ROI of over 1200x compared to the AI bill, effectively turning the AI game into a new ad slot. The article also cited Uber burning through its annual budget in 4 months after rolling out Claude Code and Cursor to all employees, and a UBS report noting that 60% of enterprises are now using guardrails to limit AI spending.
