Anthropic's entry into drug design (AIxBio) has sparked controversy within the biopharma community. Pessimists question the move, citing that "drug design is hard," "they shouldn't compete with customers," and that "if they really want to do it, they should acquire Cradle or Boltz." ML researcher Patrick Kidger publicly countered these views, stating that despite Anthropic starting behind the AIxBio SOTA and needing to tackle difficult coursework, he is still excited by capable people stepping up to solve these problems, believing it could be the start of something remarkable.
