Alibaba DAMO Academy AI Discovers Four New Superconducting Materials
Dr_Singularity · x · 2026-07-05
Alibaba DAMO Academy released an AI agent named ElementsClaw, which screened 2.4 million crystal structures in just 28 GPU hours, narrowing them down to about 68,000 candidates. Ultimately, 4 were synthesized and experimentally confirmed as new superconducting materials. The system combines a 1-billion-parameter materials foundation model trained on 125 million molecules and crystal structures, and features autonomous screening and synthesis verification capabilities. This is considered a significant breakthrough for AI for Science in materials discovery.
