AI Coding Agent Runs 17 Hours to Refactor Models and Build Tokenizers
adonis_singh · x · 2026-07-03
An AI coding agent ran continuously for about 17 hours, autonomously completing multiple complex engineering tasks: refactoring its own model format into an architecture-agnostic form, porting Llama 3.1, converting Qwen3 8B and 32B weights, and writing a SentencePiece tokenizer for Gemma 3 from scratch. This progress directly demonstrates the current capability boundaries of AI coding agents in long-duration, autonomous engineering tasks.
