Agent Amnesia is Architectural: 200K Context Can't Fix It

The author clarifies that an Agent's lack of memory isn't a lack of model intelligence, but a fundamental architectural flaw: Agents have no long-term memory. Restarting a session resets the world. Even a 200K token context large enough to fit a novel cannot retain state across session boundaries. Anthropic likens this to a "shift engineer system"—each new engineer arrives knowing absolutely nothing about the previous shift. It's total zero-memory, not just being "a bit fuzzy on the details."
