CMU and MBZUAI researchers introduced IdeaTaste, a benchmark that has LLMs write research proposals from a frozen 2025 literature snapshot and compares them with papers actually published in 2026. LLM research taste reaches only about 18%–26% of the human community, with direction judgment as the key bottleneck.
