GPT-6.2 Codenamed 'Betelgeuse' Spotted in OpenAI Internal Trackers
Around October 30, multiple independent sources almost simultaneously leaked the existence of OpenAI's next-generation model, GPT-6.2, apparently codenamed "Betelgeuse" (the red supergiant star in Orion, roughly 650-700 light-years from Earth). All current information comes from screenshots of unofficial tracking tools, and OpenAI has not commented.
Confirmed
- Screenshots of an internal tracking bot posted by different users (@takerofwhizz, VraserX, etc.) show a new "gpt-6.2-betelgeuse" entry in OpenAI's internal records, marked INTERNAL with regions: default and a do-not-share notice
- On November 1, Reddit user BrennusSokol's compiled screenshots also showed the tracker capturing anomalous entries such as "gpt-5.2-beta-kremlin / biggame-nutshell," which leakers including kimmonismu helped spread
- X user markk (60k followers) also claimed on October 30 that GPT-6.2 is coming soon, saying it is based on the long-rumored internal codename "Bel" model
Unconfirmed
- There is no evidence that "Betelgeuse" is based on the rumored "Bel" model — this is only markk's claim
- haider1 and others speculate that gpt-6.2 may belong to a new Sol series of models, which is pure speculation
- Whether the model is close to public release, and what the "kremlin / biggame-nutshell" entries mean, cannot be verified
Why it matters
- If the leaks are true, GPT-6.2 would be another major version iteration for OpenAI, and the "Betelgeuse" codename continues its tradition of astronomy-inspired naming
- Multiple independent tracker screenshots corroborate each other, making this more credible than a single-source rumor — though fake screenshots and coincidental naming remain possibilities
