Alexandr Wang Buys Tibo's Domain for a Prank, Gets Roasted
On October 29, Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang tweeted on X that his personal domain thibaultsottiaux.com had "just dropped," widely read as a playful jab at Meta researcher Thibault Sottiaux (known as Tibo). The episode quickly spiraled into a minor saga across the AI community.
Confirmed
- Wang tweeted to promote the launch of thibaultsottiaux.com; screenshots show the tweet racked up roughly 994K views.
- Tibo clapped back: "Muse can't build websites, so this guy just made a redirect," implying the site is merely a redirect page.
- User lauren dunked on Wang with the classic basketball locker-room meme "Who invited my man blud / Bro thinks he's on the team," photoshopping him in among the players.
- Wang then leaned into the self-deprecation: "Sorry, all my tokens went to the sperm memes."
Why it matters
- The episode carries no real technical substance, but it showcased a rare moment of lighthearted interaction between a Meta AI executive, front-line researchers, and the online community.
- The same day, @RileyRalmuto weighed in with a related take: if he had to pick the most trustworthy AI lab based on public leadership alone, he'd choose Meta without hesitation—citing his self-described skill at reading micro-expressions and body language, he finds Zuckerberg and Alexandr Wang credible. This view is purely the author's personal opinion.
