Satellite Imagery with VLMs Can Recover 98.3% of Commute Survey Data

A lab had 9 papers accepted at SIGSPATIAL 2026, two of which use satellite imagery and spatial data to model urban mobility. The research shows that satellite foundation models with VLMs can recover about 98.3% of commute survey data, offering a low-cost alternative to expensive surveys.
