RAG Reranker Benchmark: Cohere Ranks 15th Answer First, Small Cross-Encoder Underperforms

A developer benchmarked four RAG reranking approaches—Cross-Encoder, LLM reranking, Cohere, and Jina—on 1,507 chunks from five payment-industry PDFs, finding Cohere performed best by lifting the correct answer from rank 15 to rank 1, while a small Cross-Encoder actually hurt results.
