Together AI Launches Link CLI to Run Open-Source Models in Coding Tools with Auto Routing
Together AI announced Together Link (beta) on October 6, a CLI that lets frontier open-source models run directly inside developers' existing coding harnesses. The team built the product over 6 weeks, and it is now open for trial.
Confirmed
- Product form: a CLI tool that runs open-source models inside common programming tools, no need to change existing workflows
- Compatible harnesses: supports mainstream coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode (per @nutlope and the official announcement)
- Auto Router: automatically picks the right model based on task difficulty—cheap models for simple fixes, stronger models for complex tasks
- Spend management: built-in usage/spend tracking
- @nutlope mentioned in the introduction that agent bills can drop noticeably ("bills cut in half" is his personal phrasing)
- Status: beta, trial access open
Why it matters
- Open-source models previously struggled to plug seamlessly into coding agent ecosystems dominated by closed-source models; Link lowers the switching barrier
- Auto routing balances cost and capability, dynamically assigning models by task complexity, directly addressing the pain point of high agent bills
