ByteDance Spins Off AI Drug Discovery Unit Anew Labs with $290M Raise

ByteDance has spun off its five-year-old, 50-person AI drug discovery team as Anew Labs, which raised $290 million at a $1.5 billion valuation led by Sequoia China, IDG and Hillhouse, with ByteDance retaining a 56% controlling stake. The startup will compete head-on with other AI pharma players and Anthropic.
