One scalar per patch suffices for real-world robot navigation, ECCV study shows
An ECCV paper by Christian Wolf's team shows that extracting just one scalar per patch from a distilled pretrained vision encoder enables real-world robot navigation. The study validated this over 966 navigation episodes spanning 24 km in real buildings, evaluating which vision components actually matter.
