Hermes Agent Gains Real-Profile Browsing and Multiple Browser Backends
On August 28, NousResearch shipped two browser automation updates for Hermes Agent: a new 'real profile browsing' feature and integration with multiple browser backends.
Confirmed
- With real profile browsing enabled, the agent operates on a managed copy of the user's existing Chrome profile, carrying the user's login sessions for seamless web automation. Both justinkalland and chrisgrayson noted this differs from remotely controlling a browser, aiming to let the agent act naturally as the user.
- Backend options include Browser Use (with stealth, proxy, and captcha handling), cloud services Browserbase and Firecrawl, and Lightpanda, a high-performance local browser written in Zig.
Why it matters
- Inheriting login state lets agents complete tasks on authenticated sites, greatly expanding use cases; handing credentials to an agent also raises security and permission considerations worth evaluating before enabling.
- The multi-backend architecture lets developers choose between high-performance local options and managed cloud services for different automation and scraping needs.
