AI4Bharat and BodhanAI have previewed IndicOCR, a fully open-weight 0.8B-parameter vision model covering 9+ Indian scripts, set to launch on Hugging Face on September 5. Despite its small size, it reportedly rivals models 4-5x larger and handles handwritten notes and damaged documents.
