ProteinDPO Applies LLM Alignment Technique to Protein Design
Brian Hie's team at Arc Institute published ProteinDPO in Nature Methods, adapting Direct Preference Optimization from LLM training to align structure-conditioned protein language models with experimental fitness. The method generates more stable protein sequences without losing pre-trained knowledge and was applied to stabilizing mutations of H5 hemagglutinin, a flu vaccine component.
